Key Achievements and Responsibilities

Optics Laboratory : Setting up of a complete Optics Laboratory for holography and interferometry research and experiments.

Flexible Industrial Inspection : Project Leader of the Flexible Industrial Inspection and Machine Vision Systems activities.

Design and realization of electro-optical systems : TV-holography prototype for deformation measurements (nondestructive testing, design evaluation and optimization) and vibration analysis (noise reduction) of industrial components.

Optical Moiré Comparator for 3-dimensional shape measurements (tolerance monitoring of industrial components), with real-time image acquisition, video processing and analysis on VAX 11/780.

Machine Vision Systems (precise automatic water level control, bolt inspection,...).

Expert System : Prototype Expert System on an IBM AT for the control of sensors in the test and inspection of a flexible assembly system for air motors, studied at IVF/KTH in Stockholm.

Industrial Software : Development of an application-specific software for the TV Holography industrial system, including functional control, management and processing of interferogram images, and subsequent quantitative interpretation. About 20 commercial systems installed in Europe, Japan and South East Asia.

Installation and support of PC systems : Installation of IBM compatible PC systems, with MS DOS and MS Windows operating systems with several different software packages : Utilities, office applications, DTP, graphical, image processing, networking, software development, connection to Internet, development of Internet Web sites, using many of the available tools for the achievements of these projects.

Development and realization of Internet applications : Web sites, e-shop and database applications. Technical papers in a dedicated Web-related magazine.

Professional Experience

Previously involved in several fields of Optics and Optical Metrology (High-Speed Photography, Holography, Interferometry, Electronic Speckle Pattern Interferometry (ESPI), Moiré and Image Processing). Then the main activities shifted towards Electro-Optical Industrial Inspection, Machine Vision and Automatic Inspection, for their integration into Flexible Manufacturing Systems. Strong interests in the application of Artificial Intelligence techniques to industrial problems, and in expert systems for diagnosis and for the sensory control of integrated inspection stations.

Then Product Manager, for the International Promotion and Marketing (including organization, sales strategy and analysis, technical support, training, consulting, and development) of a metrological video system for vibration and deformation analysis, based on TV holography interferometry. The scope of the project was developed in the European, Asian and Japanese countries. The main efforts were devoted to the international coordination and to the technical and formative aspects of that promotion.

Many years of experience in software development on system control, video, image processing and interpretation realized on an IBM PC compatible workstation.

Creation of an independent firm, OptWare CH, Lausanne in May 1989, for consulting and realization in the domains of optics and related electronic data processing within industrial projects. Main activities include the promotion, marketing and support of the RAS software package throughout the world. Field service with installation of RETRA holographic video cameras and RAS, as well as training on related subjects (optical metrology, holography, lasers, image processing, etc...).

Consulting to industrial customers on specific optical metrology applications. Installation and support of PC systems with MS Windows environment and application software packages. Development and installation of Web sites and Internet applications.

Strong and continuous experience in project leading, group training and technical writing.
